Client-Side Image Blur, Mosaic Pixelation & Sensitive Data Redaction

Sharing screenshots of customer dashboards, bug reports, and invoices often risks accidentally exposing passwords, API tokens, home addresses, or credit card numbers. Semi-transparent pen markup tools can easily be unmasked. ImageUp provides permanent Gaussian blur and mosaic pixelation filters that destroy sensitive underlying pixel values locally on your machine before sharing.

How it works

1

Drop Screenshot or Photo

Select the image containing confidential text, faces, or credentials.

2

Select Effect & Draw Box

Choose Blur or Pixelate, switch to Region mode, and drag a selection rectangle over the sensitive area.

3

Verify & Download

Adjust intensity, use the 'Hold to View Original' button to audit your redaction, and download the clean image.

Why use this tool?

Permanent Pixel Destruction

Permanently averages pixel matrices so underlying text or numbers cannot be recovered by adjusting brightness or contrast.

Interactive Region Selection

Draw rectangular masks over multiple distinct sections of the same photo (e.g. redact an email address and an account balance simultaneously).

Hold to Peek Comparison

Press and hold the Peek button to quickly verify that you have covered the intended area without over-blurring the surrounding context.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why is pixelation safer than standard drawing/pen tools?

Many mobile pen tools use semi-transparent brushes that leave residual contrast underneath. Pixelation replaces the entire sub-grid with solid single-color blocks, completely eliminating character glyph outlines.

Can a blurred image ever be 'un-blurred' by an attacker?

Light blurs can sometimes be approximated using AI deconvolution models. For maximum security when hiding text or numbers, use a heavy blur radius (15px+) or switch to Mosaic Pixelation with a block size larger than the text height.

Can I redact multiple areas on the same screenshot?

Yes. In Region mode, simply drag your cursor across each separate area you want to obscure. All drawn regions are composited onto the final canvas.

Is the unblurred original image uploaded to your server?

No. The entire redaction filter runs locally inside your web browser tab via HTML5 Canvas context. Your unredacted photo never leaves your device.

Securely Hide Sensitive Information

Sharing screenshots and photos online often comes with the risk of exposing personal details. Whether it's a credit card number on a receipt, an email address in a bug report, or a face in a crowd, you need a reliable way to hide that information before you hit send. Simply drawing over text with a digital pen tool can sometimes leave underlying shapes visible if someone adjusts the contrast.

Our image blur and pixelation tool completely destroys the underlying pixel data, making it impossible for anyone to recover the hidden information. You can choose between a smooth Gaussian blur or a mosaic pixelation effect, then drag a selection box over any sensitive areas. It is easy to blur multiple different regions on the same image, and you can hold the peek button to quickly check your work against the original photo.

The entire redaction process happens locally on your device. Your unedited photos are never sent to a remote server, guaranteeing that your private information remains completely confidential throughout the entire editing process.
